Please feel free to take a recipe into your kitchen from these pages and of course, we would be delighted if you would share your favorite recipes with us.
Dear Suzi,
It's one of those evenings where I just want to watch fresh bread baking in the oven . . . but not make it; have the fire gently dancing in the hearth, candles lit
around the house because the electricity went out, run some warm water for a bath and wishing no one was home so the bathroom door could be left open to enjoy the fire and smell
the bread baking — that I didn't make.
Sound good to you, too?
Dear Julie,
I'll say it sounds good! I can almost smell it baking now.
I'll have a slice while it's still warm, spread it with soft butter and let it melt in. I wouldn't mind having some of
grandma's homemade gooseberry jam on it, too.
Grandma's gooseberry jam was dad's favorite of all her jams. I remember the last time she gave us a jar, dad treasured
it. Remember, he would only share a small taste of it with us because he wanted to make it stretch as far as possible. Mmmm, it was good.
Thanks for the treat — even if you didn't
bake it.
